Thank you for your interest in my site! Social Media Lawyer
Every day I receive emails and messages about legal issues. While I am a general business and social media lawyer in real life, playing one on the internet is very tricky due to the ethical rules attorneys must follow. In 2010, as a way to help bloggers, content creators, online professional, and entrepreneurs with legal, regulatory, and ethical situations relating to the online world, I created the Blog Law™ series. As it has expanded, and as I’ve been asked to speak more frequently on the subject, I felt it was time for its own site.
The goal of this site is to address the legal concerns of online entrepreneurs and professionals. Whether it’s just a hobby or working online is your business, we’re all expected to know the law and follow it. As I’ve found, there is a lot of misinformation on the internet. When it comes to laws and regulations, misinformation can destroy the business you’ve worked hard to create. The consequences of breaking the law are often very significant.
While this site does not offer legal advice, I hope to answer questions and provide information on topics many in the various online professions face. There are a multitude of legal issues that must be managed when doing business online. Whether it’s copyright or trademark, actually taking that step to form a legal business entity, regulatory disclosures (FTC, FDA, FINRA, and the like), running an online promotion, or the myriad of issues that come up when running an online community, I hope to provide information in a way that is helpful and understandable.
If you have any questions please let me know and I’ll do my best to answer them. I can not advise on specific matters that you are experiencing, as I do not have an attorney/client relationship with you. My goal is to provide information for bloggers, online professionals, content creators, and entrepreneurs so they can continue to grow their business despite the quagmire that is often called ‘the law’.
